Union Public Service Commission holds CDS examination twice in one year and thousands of candidates take a part in this examination in one year. Combined Defence Services exam is organized for those candidates who fulfill all the eligibility conditions for CDS I and CDS II examination to join the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy & Indian Air Force Academy. The eligibility criteria of CDS I and CDS II are given below :

Nationality:  Candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal and Bhutan.

Age Limit:

For Indian Military Academy, Candidates should not born earlier than 2 July 1995 and after than 1 July 2000.

For Naval Academy, Candidates should not born earlier than 2 July 1995 and after than 1 July 2000.

For Indian Air Force: the age limit of candidates should be between 20 to 24 years. Candidate should not born earlier than 2 July and after than 1 July 1995.

For Officers Training Academy: (SSC Course for Men) Candidates should not born earlier than 2 July 1994 and after than 1 July 2000.

For Officers Training Academy: (SSC Non-Technical Course for Women) Candidates should not born earlier than 2 July 1994 and after than 1 July 2000.

Educational Qualification

For Indian Military Academy & Officers Training Academy: Candidates must pass bachelor degree or appeared in final year of graduation from any recognized university/ Institution.

For Indian Air Force: Candidate must pass the bachelor degree (mathematics and physics as a subject in 10+2 exam) or Bachelor of Engineering from any recognized university/ Institution.

Indian Naval Academy: Bachelor degree in Engineering from any recognized university/ Institution.

Physical Standard: The candidate should be physically fit according to the standard of Combined Defence Services examination. After selecting for the SSB interview Candidates have to go through the medical examination according to the standards of Combined Defence Services.

Application Fee for CDS I & II examination

The application Fee of CDS (I&II) is Rs. 200/ (Two Hundred Rupee only) for the General & OBC Male Candidates. All female and male candidates of SC/ST/Sons of JCOs/NCOs/ORs are zero.

Mode of Payment: The payment mode of UPSC CDS (I&II) will be paid in online mode. Candidate can pay their fee by using Net Banking, Credit Card, Rupay Card, Debit Card and SBI challan.

Selection procedure of CDS I & II Examination

Combined Defence Services I & II examination is conducted through the UPSC for the requirement of Indian Military Academy, Indian Air force, Indian Naval Academy and Officer Training Academy. In the examination of CDS I & II candidates have to go through four stages to join defence services after passing the bachelor examination.

Stage 1st Written examination: In CDS I and II Written examination there will be objective type question, time duration for written exam is 2 hours and the maximum marks for all subject is 100.

After qualifying the written exam the candidates will be shortlisted on basis of UPSC to appearing for Intelligence and Personality test.

After appearing the written exam of CDS I and II candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of Service Selection Board. After qualifying the Written exam of CDS 1st & 2nd can appear for Personality and Intelligence. There will be two stages 1st personality development and 2nd General Intelligence. After qualifying stage 1st candidates can appear for stage second. The candidates who fail to pass the stage first will be returned.

Stage 3rd Document verification: The Candidates who will qualify CDS I and II examination of stage second will be shortlisted for document verification procedure. The required document for verification is matriculation passed certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth, (ii) Bachelors Degree/Provisional Degree alongwith mark sheets of all the years/semesters in support of educational qualification.

Stage 4th Medical Test:

This is the last verification for CDS 1st and 2nd examination. After fulfill all the criteria of document verification the candidates will be shortlisted for medical test.  The candidates should be medically fit according to the Combined Defence Services.

Admit card of CDS I and CDS II Examination

The UPSC will publish the Hall ticket of CDS I and CDS II through online mode. CDS I and II admit card will be available on official website. Candidate can get their admit card by filling the registration number and date of birth. The candidates cannot attend the CDS I & II examination in the absence of admit card.

Answer Key of CDS-I and CDS-II Examination

Answer Key of CDS-I and CDS-II will be released by officially after written examination. CDS-I and CDS-II answer key will be published in online mode through UPSC.  Candidate can check their answer key within one week after written examination of CDS- I & CDS- II.  Answer key of CDS includes answers of all the questions asked in the written examination in CDS I and CDS II examination. Answer key of CDS 1st and CDS 2nd helps the candidate to check their rough results.

Elementary Mathematics

ARITHMETIC:

Number System –  Natural  numbers, Integers, Rational and Real numbers. Fundamental operations, addition, substraction,  multiplication, division, Square roots, Decimal fractions. Unitary method, time and distance, time and work, percentages, applications to simple and compound interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion,

Elementary Number Theory –   Division  algorithm. Prime and composite numbers. Tests of divisibility by 2, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 11. Multiples and factors. Factorisation Theorem. H.C.F. and L.C.M. Euclidean algorithm. Logarithms to base 10, laws of logarithms, use of logarithmic tables.

ALGEBRA:

Basic Operations, simple factors, Remainder Theorem, H.C.F., L.C.M., Theory of polynomials, solutions of quadratic equations, relation between its roots and coefficients (Only real roots to be considered). Simultaneous linear equations in two unknowns—analytical and graphical solutions. Simultaneous linear inequations in two variables and their solutions. Practical problems leading to two simultaneous linear equations or inequations in two variables or quadratic equations in one 21 variable & their solutions. Set language and set notation, Rational expressions and conditional identities, Laws of indices.

TRIGONOMETRY:

Sine ×, cosine ×, Tangent × when 0° < × < 90° Values of sin ×, cos × and tan ×, for × = 0°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° Simple trigonometric identities. Use of trigonometric tables. Simple cases of heights and distances

GEOMETRY:

Lines and angles, Plane and plane figures, Theorems on (i) Properties of angles at a point, (ii) Parallel lines, (iii) Sides and angles of a triangle, (iv) Congruency of triangles, (v) Similar triangles, (vi) Concurrence of medians and altitudes, (vii) Properties of angles, sides and diagonals of a parallelogram, rectangle and square, (viii) Circles and its properties including tangents and normals, (ix) Loci.

MENSURATION :

Areas of squares, rectangles, parallelograms, triangle and circle. Areas of figures which can be split up into these figures (Field Book), Surface area and volume of cuboids, lateral surface and volume of right circular cones and cylinders, surface area and volume of spheres.

STATISTICS:

Collection and tabulation of statistical data, Graphical representation frequency polygons, histograms, bar charts, pie charts etc. Measures of central tendency.

Cut off of CDS-I and CDS-II Examination

Union Public Service Commission conducts examination of CDS-I and CDS -II in various centers in all regions across India. A large number of candidates take a part in CDS-I and CDS-II examination. CDS I and CDS II answer key published after written examination. CDS I & CDS II cut off relished in pfd format. Cut off marks helps the candidates to appearing in Interview and Personality test in CDS I and CDS II examination.  UPSC will only called those candidates to appear in Interview whose marks will equal or above than cut off marks. Cut off marks depends on a number of vacancies of CDS I and CDS II examination.

Result of CDS I and CDS II Examination

The result of CDS I and CDS II is declared by UPSC. Union Public Service Commission announces the result of CDS I and CDS II examination via online mode in PDF format. UPSC   publishes the result of CDS I and CDS II in two parts, firsts for written exam and second for Interview and Personality test. Final result comes out after shortlisted in medical examination.  CDS I and CDS II result confirms the candidates who join the IMA, INA, IAF, OTA (Men), OTA (Women).
